It’s true that English estate gardens are highly formal, but cottage gardens have a more natural and causal look to them. This is great when you don’t have a lot of space because cottage gardens are denser and use all of the space that is available. There is no single way to plant your cottage garden but, most of the time, they contain lots of different types of flowers. Roses and other flowers with strong smells are usually the top choice but herbs and edible plants can be included too. The look of these gardens is usually natural and will often have vines that climb on walls or gates. It’s easy to take the basic notion behind the English cottage garden and use plants that naturally grow in your local area.
A flower garden should promote a feeling of wonder and amazement; helping intensify this would be adding a faint fragrant aroma. Just make sure your flowers are put into an area that has the ability to provide adequate sunshine and are growing in the correct soil type. Remember when you cram too many plants into a space that will not allow them to grow adequately, they will not flourish. If you can draw in some butterflies or birds into your flower garden; you will highlight an already enthralling level of charm. If you provide some food and maybe a little water to bathe in; you would make the place look more attractive to the birds. Plants like honeysuckle naturally produce the nectar that birds and butterflies love; growing plants like this will help draw the wildlife in.
Gardening design is great for being creative and a well designed garden truly is a work of art. Whether your garden is small and container bound or large and in a yard, the more thought you put into its design, the better the results are be. You can get inspiration by studying other garden designs but don’t forget to include a few of your own personal touches as well.
